So.. We told the parents...

So.. we planned on telling our parents about #7 last night at dinner.  As you can imagine, my husband and I were pretty nervous, not because we didn't think they would take the news well but because it's #7 and well, I guess you just never know what to expect.
So yesterday after work I went to Walgreen's and picked out 2 blank cards.  1 for my parents and 1 for my mother in law. I came home and wrote:
"We just wanted to give you a quick note to thank you for everything you have done for us and our family.  You have been great grandparents to all 6 of our children and they love you deeply.  Well, that love is only going to get deeper and stronger because by the end of the year, you will have a seventh grandchild.  Congratulations! <3 K&A  P.S. Please mark 12/31 on your calendars."
Being very proud of myself and thinking I'm pretty clever, I put them in an envelope, shoved them in my purse and off we went to meet the 'rents' for dinner.

When we got to our destination, my mother in law was already there and waiting for us.  We walked in asked for a seat on the patio (hoping not to sit on the bar side because we are friends with people who work there and were not sharing our secret with anyone other than our parents at this time).. so we end up on the patio on the bar side of course. Well, no big deal, this will be fine, we can still be nonchalant about the situation.

Sit down and I get a water, my husband a Coke, and my mother in law a water - phew we aren't the only ones not ordering alcohol.

We are chatting a little bit when my parents arrive. They come outside and sit down at the table. Our favorite bartender comes out so excited to finally meet my parents (he has met my mother in law before) he squats down in between the 2 moms, puts his arms around them and says "Mom's when are these 2 beautiful people in front of us going to give us a beautiful child?" - now keep in mind - he DOES NOT know we are pregnant.
Both moms give an awkward smile like isn't 6 enough???, dad leans over to me and says "WHO IS THAT?" and I proceed with the introductions.

After everyone has been properly introduced.. bartender (who we are still not giving his name for fear of his identity being leaked at this moment) goes to take orders.. Dad looking around notices I'm only drinking water and looks at me and says, "Kristie, are you pregnant?"
Me - completely startled and shocked speechless.
Dad: "Water? Not even 1 glass of wine?"
Me: "Believe it our not, we haven't really been drinking. I haven't had wine in weeks." (see I didn't deny)
Mom: "Why?"
Me: "We are just trying to be healthier." (again.. not a lie)
Bartender: "So are you going to get pregnant or not?"
mother in law (under her breath): "they better not"
Me: "Bartender... when are YOU going to get pregnant?"
SILENCE....
Me: "What? Is she Pregnant?"
Bartender: "Shhhh.. no one knows! Text her if you don't believe me."
And low and behold.. they are pregnant.. but only 5 - 6 weeks and are keeping it on the down low..

Pregnant conversation over at this point...
Now I'm thinking.. hmmm... maybe this isn't such a good idea.. maybe we should wait to tell them.
So conversation continues, it looks like it's going to rain and we move inside.

We order dinner.. chat.. then conversation picks up again.
Mom: "Oh Kristie, remember this purse?"
Me: "Yeah purse party, love that purse."
mom: "Me too.  So I pulled it out and opened it up and look what I found inside!"
            pulls out a diaper!
Me: "WOW that must have been from B"
Dad: "How do you know it wasn't from A"
Mom: "It's a boy diaper had to have been from B"
Dad: "Yeah, when mom showed me that we thought it was a sign.  I mean, why did you ask us out to dinner?  Is there an announcement?"
Mom: "Yeah you only ask us out when you have all the kids."
Dad: "Well, unless you have an announcement.  We Really thought you were going to tell us you were pregnant. Mom was convinced."
Mom: "And this diaper was the icing on the cake."
Dad: "and even though it's a bit much, I would welcome it."
Me - looking at husband: "A bit much?  what is 7 when you already have 6?"
Husband: "Yeah? not much different."
Dad: "well that's a good way of thinking."
Mother in law: "Well you better think long and hard about that one. There's just starting to be a light at the end of your tunnel."
Mom: "Yea there is."

And... change of subject. At this point, there is no way we are telling them tonight.. The check comes, we pay and we are off..

Standing at the cars saying our goodbyes I sense a tad bit of disappointment... The subject comes up again and instead of partaking in the conversation I just pull out the cards, hand one to my mother and one to my husband to give to his mother. They read them my mother says "I WAS RIGHT!!!!" All of them were happy!  Even though our mothers seemed on the fence during dinner.. they were happy!

So now they know.. YAY.. next will be the kids.. but not until next weekend. I'll be almost 10 weeks and we'll have time to discuss their questions and concerns.

Kiddism:
Little B looking for a sweatshirt in his closet... "Mom, I saw it in here I swear.  It's a Handy Down from M."  lol a "Handy Down!"
